One of my favorite expressions of entertainment is the Artist in Concert. There is nothing more exciting than the sound of the audience when the lights go down just before the start of the show.
 
These are some of my favorite concert events and artists that I have been fortunate to work with.

American Bandstand Classics

Hosted by Dick Clark (via video) and a great cast of 20 singers and dancers.

This spectacular concert event featured the best of the classic TV show American Bandstand through the years.

TAMMY WYNETTE
 
Tammy Wynette and I got to know each other first when I staged her number one international hit "Justified and Ancient".  She and her husband, George Richey and I became dear friends. She was a wonderful woman. I last worked with her when we did the tribute to Elton John at the Universal Amphitheatre.
 
She brilliantly performed STAND BY YOUR MAN with Elton's band and singers - it was pure heaven and the audience went wild. Tammy was a true country legend and touched the hearts of audiences worldwide and those of us to be blessed to be touched personally by her spirit and grace.

A MOONLIGHT SERENADE ABOARD THE QUEEN MARY 2 - PBS

I was asked to direct Carly Simon's return to the concert stage after a 10 year hiatus from performing live before a paid audience. It was an amazing 2 nights. The show also featured BeBe Winans, Rob Thomas, Livingston Taylor, Ben Taylor, Sally Taylor, CeCe WInans, Lucy Simon and the 50 member Apollo Theatre Choir.  
 
The following year I directed and choreographed Carly's PBS Television Special - CARLY SIMON - A MOONLIGHT SERENADE ABOARD THE QUEEN MARY 2 for Sony DVD and PBS.
It was the first TV special shot on an Atlantic Crossing from New York to Southampton, England. It was an amazing experience overall.

BARBRA STREISAND

Barbra Streisand is a legend and a superstar but more importantly her humanity, concern for others and generosity is beyond measure.

 The first time I worked with Barbra in 1992 when she made her now historic appearance at APLA's Commitment to Life at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. It was an extraordinary experience for myself and the 6,000 people in the sold out audience that night. Every step of the way she was wonderful to work with. She is funny, bright and articulate. We raised 6 million dollars that night to benefit Aids Project Los Angeles.  It was a dream come true - It will always be a highlight for me...

The following year we worked together again. Barbra made a special appearance at Commitment To Life honoring First Lady Hillary Clinton. This time we raised 7.5 million dollars for Aids Project Los Angeles.  It was a time that will never be again, we raised our voices in hope and love and made a change in peoples lives and public perception. Remember....make your voice heard. We can all make a difference - one voice - one day at a time.

I was fortunate enough to work with her on many more occasions - She is kind, bright, funny, amazing to work with and a true legend. I learned much from her and will always be grateful to her for the extraordinary opportunites and time shared....
